The Lost Collectors

Updated: Nov 3

We are in a great time in the hobby if you were to ask many collectors. Baseball is in the fall classic and football is in full swing. Basketball is just ramping up and players are playing at historic levels in baseball. Also, hockey is in swing, and those collectors are out and participating in the hobby. However, there are a few forgotten “sports” that are actually bigger in fan bases at times throughout the year that aren’t selling or showing up on the timelines of social media. The main two that I will be speaking of are wrestling “WWE” and Nascar.

Starting with Nascar, there are so many Nascar fans that watch Friday to Sunday to watch all the different series or leagues that run throughout the weekend that collect diecast, autographs from the drivers and also the main collectable out there, trading cards. There are many different trading cards for Nascar out there. Many have autos and relics just like the other sports and are made by the same companies such as panini. Yet there seems to be a lack of space in the social media realm. F1 is out there and often talked about many times in chatrooms but the Nascar collectors seem to be hidden, at least on the main avenue of X. Nascar can be an exciting sport to watch and has many different drivers for people to collect. If you have not checked out some of the Nascar cards out there id definitely recommend that you do . Some of the dale jr , and joey Logano or Kurt and Kyle Busch cards are phenomenal in their presentation and have sweet patches of rubber, metal, among the other relics usually found in baseball or football cards.

The next sport that seems to fly under the radar is WWE or world wrestling entertainment. This one can be debated as a sport due to it being scripted but that is not the reason it is being brought up and that’s an article for another day. These athletes are out there all the time doing things I wouldn’t be able to do on my best day at my best body shape. There are many collectables for them as well. Action figures, magazines, posters, t-shirts and of course trading cards. This one has some amazing cards out there. The WWE Prizm set has some great photos and has the same rare cards that the football Prizm has. There are also some great relics in some of the WWE sets and also some great autos. When you go to a WWE event, they sell autos on 8x10s but they are often big and take up most of the photos. The autos on some of the cards are amazing and clean and are verified. Many of the autos at the shows are pre signed and don’t have JSA or any company sticker. Getting back on track, there is not a huge community presence on social media of WWE card collectors. There are a few threads that I have seen that have a great following but relative to the size of the sport and community that collects it, where are they? Same with Nascar, the collectors collect but are not seen as much as the mainstream sports.

There are other sports like MMA/UFC that have cards and are collected and sought after pretty highly. F1 has made a huge impact on the hobby in the last few years and has many new collectors coming into the hobby of collecting sports cards. I personally know nothing of F1 but am happy its bringing in more collectors. Collecting should bring happiness and joy. For me baseball and football are my sports and maybe that’s why I never see any other sports outside those two and hockey and basketball. But perhaps there is a lack of trading card collectors of the other sports, and this would be a problem because the fans of those sports are missing out on an awesome way to collect their respective sports.

So in summation if you like non “main” sports, and collect items from those sports, perhaps give trading cards of WWE, F1, or racing a try? Thank you for reading this article.

Thank you for reading.
