Signed Game-Worn Jordan Rookie Sneakers & High-Grade Sets Highlight Auction Results
Chester, NJ - April 22, 2024 - REA’s Spring Catalog Auction closed on Sunday night and the top seller was a 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron Rookie PSA 9 that sold for $420,000. It was followed by a beautiful 1969-1970 Topps Basketball high-grade complete set ranked #4 on the PSA Set Registry with an 8.77 GPA that sold for an impressive $336,000. A 1993 Upper Deck SP Foil #279 Derek Jeter Rookie PSA GEM MINT 10, one of only 21 examples to be graded this high by PSA, sold for $312,000 and the first and only known example of a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background PSA GOOD+ 2.5 with a Broad Leaf 350 back sold for $270,000.
Perhaps the most unique item in the auction was a pair of Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls signed game-worn Nike Air Ship sneakers worn during his historic 1984 rookie season that sold for $282,000.
The auction generated over $15.4 million in sales and included 16 items that exceeded the $100,000 mark, with more than 91,200 bids being placed by a record number of bidders.
In addition to the 1969-1970 Topps Basketball complete set, REA’s Spring Auction was loaded with numerous other high-grade complete sets, substantiating a reinvigorated focus and enthusiasm on hobby-wide set-building. A 1969 Topps high-grade complete set ranked #6 on the PSA Set Registry boasting an 8.98 GPA sold for $216,000 while a 1962 Topps PSA-graded complete set that includes 32 variations sold for $108,000 and a high-grade 1956 Topps complete set that included an SGC NM/MT 8 Mickey Mantle sold for $75,000.
