Brody TK Awards

What is going on Hobby Fam? Back for another round of Hobby News Daily, and we are at the end of the MLB season. So, let's look at the World Series and who should be the favorites for the big awards and a key card to look for of them.

World Series: The World Series is here and it’s a big time Matchup with the Yankees and Dodgers. Both teams have at least 4 players that look like future Hall of Fame Players. What can this Series do for their cards? I think that’s the big thing to look at during this series. Players like Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani could have their World Series moment and possibly spike their cards up in value. Hitting a home run to walk the game off, or having an amazing stat line game in a Win could make some of these players have cards worth more than they were before. This series should definitely leave us with some memorable moments.

2024 MLB Award Winners predictions with my favorite card of them!

AL Cy Young: Tarik Skubal who won the American League Triple Crown in Wins, Strikeouts and ERA. No brainer for the award! (2021 Bowman 1st Sapphire)

NL Cy Young: Chris Sale (finally) who also wins his league's Triple Crown. One of my favorite ex-White Sox, and I am happy he finally wins the award! (2011 Topps RC)

AL ROTY: Luis Gil - finished with 15 Wins and a 3.50 ERA for the best team in the AL. Great rookie season for Gil. (Topps Now RC)

NL ROTY: Jackson Merrill - helped the Padres to a blazing hot second half surge to the playoffs and finished with a huge stat line, especially for a rookie (.292/24/90) - (2024 Topps Series 2 SP RC)

AL MVP: Aaron Judge - best power hitter in the game finished with 58 homers and a .322 average for the top AL team. (2017 Topps RC)

NL MVP: Shohei Ohtani 50/50 is all you have to say, doesn't matter if he only was a DH this season. (2018 Topps Gold)

AL Platinum Glove: Cedric Mullins carried a high fielding percentage and did a great job patrolling CF for the Orioles. (2018 1st Bowman Auto)

NL Platinum Glove: Brenton Doyle high ranks in all the statistical categories and made numerous highlight reel plays in CF and also has a cannon for an arm.

(2020 Bowman Chrome 1st Auto)

Do you see any different players bringing home any of these awards? Let me know what you think!

Now I want to introduce a new feature I will share occasionally…”What’s Buggin’ Me” in the Hobby. This is where I will share with you something I have been seeing in the hobby that we love that I hope changes soon!  This month, with Topps Update recently dropping, What's Buggin' Me is the oversaturation of the Flagship design. I understand that there are a lot of baseball players in MLB, but between Series 1, Series 2, Update, Chrome, Logofractor, Chrome Update, Sapphire etc; we get a lot of different versions of the same cards, and it’s just too much. This doesn't even include all the parallels! I’m usually tired out by the design after Chrome is released. I would gladly be ok with these variations but I hope they find a way to tweak the designs a little bit or at least changeup some of the players' images in some of the releases. I don't want to go back to just Flagship Base and Traded, but let's find a happy spot in the middle! Period!

That is all for this round, Hobby Fam! Let me know your thoughts on your award picks and your views on our annual Topps Flagship design releases.

Peace out!
